Chapter 62 62. Expecting Some Updates.
Dahlia\'s Dad had a high risk of having another cardiac arrest which was why he needed surgery as soon as possible.
Yvonne had been worried sick about how she would come up with the money needed for the surgery, but now that it had been paid, she could finally relax a bit and pray that the surgery would be successful.
Yvonne was currently sitting on a bench, silently praying for the doctor to return with positive news.
Kevin and Dahlia were seated a few meters away from her.
Dahlia was staring at the floor, she couldn\'t summon the courage to look at Kevin\'s face after all he had done for her. "Thank you, I promise to…"
Kevin quickly interjected "I am not doing you a favour. I\'ll be expecting you to pay me back with interest."
She didn\'t like being in such a hopeless state, but when she had thought that there was no one she could turn to, Kevin had helped even though she hadn\'t asked him to.
The memory of his swift rush to her rescue was now etched in her heart, and she would never forget what happened today.
Tears stream down Dahlia\'s cheeks and she nodded in response. "Yes, I will. Thank you."
The two remained silent as they waited for the surgery to end.
Six hours later, Dahlia opened her eyes to find out that she had slept off on Kevin\'s lap, meanwhile, Kevin was still asleep.
\'He stayed with me while the surgery was going on?\' Dahlia felt touched and couldn\'t express how pleased and comforting it was to have Kevin by her side.
The doctor came out of the OT and walked towards Yvonne. Dahlia and Kevin stood up as well, after seeing Yvonne rush towards the doctor.
Dahlia held Kevin\'s hand tightly in fear of what the outcome would be while she watched her mother\'s every reaction as she conversed with the doctor.
Yvonne\'s eyes turned misty as a smile spread on her face. She finally thanked the doctor and turned towards Dahlia.
Dahlia ran towards her and hugged her. With her expression, it was easy to guess that the surgery went well and Dahlia\'s Dad\'s was now safe.
Dahlia and Yvonne held each other\'s hands and were on their way to the operating theatre when a nurse prevented them from entering.
"Please, the patient needs his rest right now. We\'ll let you know when he will be allowed to receive visitors."
Dahlia and Yvonne nodded in understanding. Yvonne was thanking Kevin once again when a female staff walked towards their direction.
Yvonne also walked towards the staff so she could talk to her. When they were done, Dahlia asked. "What did she say?"
"She said I would have to provide Ben\'s ID and hospital card if I want him to be discharged."
"Oh, then I will head home now to get everything they need," Dahlia said, but Yvonne shook her head.
Although Kevin was a bit distant from them since he gave them space to talk, Yvonne nevertheless pulled Dahlia closer and whispered into her ears.
"You two haven\'t eaten since you got here right? Take him home, make him something delicious for him to eat and give him everything he wants."
\'Everything he wants?\' Dahlia repeated in her mind.
Her cheeks and ears flushed red and she couldn\'t help but exclaim silently. "Mom!"
Yvonne raised an eyebrow and smiled. "What? I like this one more than the thug you were always so obsessed with. He\'s more of a gentleman than that baboon. Make sure you give him the best night of his life. I\'ll be expecting positive updates soon," She said with a wink.
\'Updates?\' Dahlia was trying to figure out what her mother meant when it suddenly occurred to her.
"Y-You want me to get p-pregnant?!" She exclaimed but Yvonne covered her mouth.
Although Kevin couldn\'t hear them, Yvonne still had to be extra careful.
"Shhh," Yvonne placed a finger on her mouth.
"Yes, I want to hear some good news in the next few months. I\'m not getting any younger, I need to cuddle my grandchildren soon. So put on your best makeup and give him the ride of his life."
Dahlia nodded at her mother but couldn\'t help the redness that now filled her whole face.
However, she was still worried that she would have to leave her mother all alone to care for her Dad, and Yvonne understood the look in Dahlia\'s eyes.
"Don\'t worry about us. I\'ll get your dad\'s hospital card and ID and will return after making something delicious for him to eat," She assured her before adding.
"Now, you go do the same for your man. Don\'t let this one slip away from your fingers.
Dahlia smiled as she nodded. She couldn\'t believe her mom actually approved of the man she was with.
Yvonne had always nagged Dahlia to let go of that good-for-nothing Drake, but as though she was under a love spell, Dahlia would refuse and repeatedly argue with Yvonne over leaving him.
Yvonne was a middle-aged woman with black hair that was up to her shoulders.
Due to Ben\'s sudden cardiac arrest, she didn\'t have time to put on make-up, but she was equally beautiful without one.
She was dressed in a plain yellow shirt and a long dark-green skirt with floral prints on it.
"I\'ll be back tomorrow to visit you and Dad." Dahlia gave in.
"That\'s fine, just make sure you do as you\'ve been instructed," She let go of Dahlia\'s hand right after she noticed that Dahlia had decided to do exactly as she had instructed.
She smiled and left the hospital to get everything she needed before returning later this evening to stay with her husband.
Dahlia slowly approached Kevin who was now taking a seat.
"When is your mom coming back?"
"Do we need to wait a bit more before we can see your Dad?" Kevin asked but Dahlia shook her head.
"Mom is heading home to cook some food for my Dad before he wakes up. Should we get something to eat as well?"
