Chapter 372 - Envisaging The Earth Federation
Lake Zhongnan.
Inside a meeting room decorated in the style of an ancient palace, the top elder, the second elder, and the key top-ranking leaders looked at Lanfelord sitting across from them. They were full of curiosity.
They remembered some nicknames they had seen on the internet about this person.
The son selected by the Heavens.
Target with the highest number of assassination attempts in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Body of Steel that could never die.
Super reformer.
Countless halos were placed on Lanfelord’s head. His support rate in Merica was over 90%. Many people in Z country and other parts of the world regarded him as an idol.
At this moment, with such a legendary figure sitting across from them, the elders still felt a wave of pressure and an impressive atmosphere. They became more alert; they dare not underestimate this person.
“Dear Sirs, my visit is indeed for the purpose of long-term peace,” Lanfelord said with a smile. Everyone was surprised to hear him fluently speaking Z language. He even spoke the language in a standard accent. He had an extremely high level of language proficiency.
After they recovered from the surprise, the top elder said, “Z country is a peace-loving country. I didn’t expect Mr. Lanfelord to be a pacifist too. We happen to hold the same view on this point, but I also want to hear Mr. Lanfelord’s esteemed opinion.”
The top elder reached out his hand.
Lanfelord nodded and shared his thoughts. “If you compare Earth to a classroom, Z country and Merica should be the two best students in the class.”
“In the past, Merica was the first and Z country the second; now Z country is the first and Merica is the second. This is very depressing for me. As a patriot, I don’t want Merica to be reduced to second place. We want to always be the first.”
“But we have no choice. Z country’s people are very smart and diligent. Your efforts command respect. You became the first in class with your own efforts. We can’t help but surrender. If we want to turn the tables, we have to get ourselves together and fight to catch up.”
“But there is a significant portion of Mericans who do not want to get first place back via normal means. They think of war, think of force, and want to use catastrophic means to mend their fragile self-esteem. I got them to stand on the sidelines with great difficulty.”
“However, they are still there and their thinking has not changed significantly. The first place is very important; honor is very important. A student who acknowledges that he is outstanding cannot accommodate other geniuses. In Z country, this is described as ‘why is there another genius when I exist.’”
“After I step down, as long as some candidates instigate things slightly, they will be able to pull many votes from the hardliners.”
” I’ve realized that it is very difficult to overtake Z nation with the population and technological strength of Merica. Unless you make mistakes, it is difficult to get an opportunity to regain top position. The gap will even widen gradually until it is so big that people lose confidence and sink into frustration. It will even cause some manic sufferers to go crazy. Of course, as long as a rational person like me is power, I can contain their incitement. When I step down, the situation will be hard to predict.”
The top elder frowned and asked, “Mr. Lanfelord, what do you mean...?”
“We need to shift the focus of attention,” Lanfelord said. “We need to shift everyone’s attention from the small ‘classroom’ of the earth to outside of the classroom.”
The elders were first doubtful, and then they became thoughtful.
After a pause, Lanfelord finally revealed his true purpose. “I hope to work with Z country to establish a joint organization that gathers all countries together. I have named it the Earth Federation (UED).”
“This organization is different from the current United Nations (UN). The Earth Federation is a powerful institution. It has an army, and it has the power to issue the Earth’s unified currency. The Earth Federation will even handle all international affairs. Member states have no power to intervene in international affairs.”
“In addition, the UED’s Chief of Parliament will enjoy definite power with regards to major international issues. He will have the power of veto. Of course, Z country and Merica will also have the right to veto, similar to permanent members. A total of three vetoes will determine the major issues of the entire planet.”
“Other countries are smaller in size, smaller in population, and economically weak. They will be underrepresented, with only ordinary voting rights and no right of veto.”
“As a balance, the leader of the Earth Federation cannot be a national of Z country or Merica. It will be a role generally taken by outstanding people from small and medium-sized countries.”
“The two superpowers will each provide 50,000 troops and actively participate in international affairs. They will investigate and discuss matters in depth to deal with the situation in various parts of the globe.”
“Of course, the main responsibility of the Earth Federation is not based on Earth, but in the universe!”
“We should devote the power of the two countries to bring together the resources of the world, jointly carry out exploration in outer space, and obtain endless resources from the vast universe.”
“We’ll carry out interstellar colonization which includes establishing immigration areas on the moon and Mars, building cities on other planets, and even traveling to other galaxies dozens of light-years away to broaden the territory of the Earth Federation.”
“We also have to form a federal interstellar alliance fleet to defend against invasion from potential enemies and defend the security of the Earth Federation.”
“There are so many things to do. It is impossible to achieve all these with a single country’s resources and capabilities: no country can bear such a large cost. Only cooperation and partnership can bring about maximum benefits.”
“The earth is very big. But it is just a grain of dust compared to the whole universe. If everyone cast their sights into the hidden skies, instead of staring at the tiny benefits in front of us; if we unite and collate our strengths, what everyone gets will be much more than what can be gained from fighting alone.”
“Esteemed gentlemen, please consider my suggestion. I don’t have any personal desires mixed into this suggestion. There’s no narrow patriotism, just a sincere call and an invitation with a view towards long-term interests.”
Lanfelord stood up and laid his palms on the table. He said with a sincere expression, “If you agree with my point of view and support my ideas, then we can move in the same direction and accomplish this feat.”
The elders looked at each other and nodded at the same time. President Lanfelord was indeed someone who understood. He had expressed many opinions that were the same as theirs.
But it was impossible to agree on the spot.
After all, this matter was too important. It determined the fate and future of the entire human race. It was impossible to build the so-called “Earth Federation” immediately.
“We have to discuss and consider this matter. It will take a few days to give you a formal reply,” the top elder said.
“No problem, you can think about it, but my next visit is to Russia, then to Germany, France, Britain. I’m also planning on visiting other countries to propose my concept. They are very likely to be very interested in the ‘veto power’ and that will cause some trouble for me. It may even lead to more than three veto votes. I am left with slightly more than a year in office and time is tight. I hope to do this last thing in my tenure.”
Was there no such store after passing this village?
The elders were ranting angrily in their minds.
...
Two days later, Lanfelord’s visit ended and he was driven to the airport. He would fly to Russia for his next round of visits.
Suddenly, the phone of the Secretary of State, Malton, rang.
Malton answered the phone and his expression quickly became odd. He leaned over to Lanfelord.
“Mr. President, Minister Wang called me. He told us not to go. He says that we can stay in Z country for a few more days, set up the Earth Federation and talk about it in depth.”
“Oh... ” A smile appeared on Lanfelord’s face immediately.
