The Devil's Sweetheart

Chapter 259 - Monster Lurking In The Shadows

The drive to the home was eerily silent. Devin turned on the music to ease the atmosphere, but in the next second, Leena turned it off. Laughing to himself, he focused on driving. Not every time, he gets the chance to see Leena\'s angry bird face. At last, he succeeded in his mission. Upon reaching home, Leena shot out of the car before Devin comes to open the door.

Wordlessly, Devin also stepped out of the car and followed her behind. \'\'I am sorry, Leena.\'\' Devin apologized, but it was no use. Leena stomped into the bathroom and shut the door not before throwing a deathly glare at him.

\'\'Let me see if you keep your stance if I get your favorite drink.\'\' He strolled out of the room, thinking of a way to suppress her anger.

While in the bathroom, Leena deliberately extended her time to annoy Devin, but that beast didnot even knock on the door. Frustratingly, she stomped out of the bathroom, but to her surprise, Devin was not in the room. \'\'He is not even coaxing after his shameful act.\'\'

Leena walked to the bed to get her beauty sleep, at least today, but something on the bedside table caught her attention. A sad-faced emoji ball with a frowning mouth and disappointed eyes conveying a sense of sorrow. Along with it, there was a note and a glass of banana smoothie on the table. Leena looked around to see if Devin was watching her. When there was no trace of him, with a smile, she picked the note. [I am truly sorry for my incessant behavior earlier and know that you still love me a lot, please take me back into your life]

Although the note was drawing a curve on her lips, she was seriously looking into the handwriting. \'\'This writing feels familiar. Where did I see it?\'\' Leena raked her brain, and she got nothing in the end. Even when they communicated through sticky notes during their fight, Leena felt familiar, but she brushed that thought off. When she was pondering over it, she felt a pair of hands encircling her stomach. "I told not to take hair wash during nights. Will you ever heed to my words?\'\' Devin chided and led her to the chair. Handing her a banana smoothie, he went inside the room and returned with a dryer.

\'\'Backstabber, stool pigeon, double-crosser.\'\' Leena cursed loudly as Devin dried her hair. \'\'Shameless idiot. How could you bring that matter when we were...\'\' Leena pressed her lips edgily and cursed at herself when she couldn\'t think of anything except desire at that moment.

\'\'If you had told about that bastard when I politely asked_\'\'

\'\'Don\'t call him a bastard.\'\' Devin received a sharp rebuke from Leena. \'\'He is my angel.\'\'

\'\'You are worshipping some other man in front of your husband?\'\' Devin felt a sharp pang of jealousy hearing Leena\'s words. He should be grateful to that man for saving Leena, but he would throw all the logic out of the window when it comes to her.

"I don\'t even remember that man, Devin. Forget about the kiss.\'\' Leena cried in exasperation and turned to Devin, throwing the dryer away from his hands. \'\'Can we stop arguing about it?\'\'

\'\'Why? Are you embarrassed? Anyway, I can\'t believe you kissed a man when you were not even in a proper conscious state.\'\' Like a nagging wife, he grumbled. \'\'Unlike you, I didnot go and kiss a random woman.\'\'

Awkwardly, Leena scratched her forehead with her forefinger. Did I make a mistake kissing that stranger or talking about my first kiss with Devin? But one thing was sure. Devin got a topic to taunt, and until Leena feels guilty, he would mock her. It\'s time to rattle him.

\'\'I am sleepy, Devin\'\' Leena raised her arms in front of him to distract him.

\'\'You will have ways to divert the topic always.\'\' Devin lifted and carried her to the bed.

\'\'Because I know your weakness.\'\' She cheekily added and snuggled closer to him. \'\'What time are we starting tomorrow?\'\'

\'\'Late in the afternoon,\'\' Devin said. Due to urgent work at the office, he has to cut short the trip. He wanted to spend the whole ten days with Leena alone, but she force told him that the work is equally important, and he has to agree to it unwillingly.

"Sweetheart, are you sleeping?\'\' Devin slowly grazed her arms, and not before his hand reached inside her dress, Leena swatted it away.

\'\'I know your tricks—no more for today. I am tired.\'\' A while ago, they did it in the car, and this deviant is ready for it again? Eating and love-making are the two duties she has been doing for the past five days perfectly. At some point in time, Leena stopped counting the number of times.

\'\'Am I tiring you a lot?\'\' Devin asked as he pulled the blanket up to her chin.

\'\'No, babylicious.\'\' Leena pecked on his soft lips and pulled his ear to whisper. \'\'If you could read my mind, I am pretty sure you know it already.\'\'

\'\'Don\'t tempt me, Lenea.\'\' Devin pulled himself away from her when he was getting hard on already. It\'s better to stay away from this drug for today. With high self-control, he has to sleep for the whole night.

.....

The next day, Leena put on her drama act of cry when they reached Maine\'s borders. \'\'Hope to see you again.\'\' She waved goodbye wiping her tears.

\'\'Attention Queen.\'\' Devin muttered, shaking his head.

Devin dropped her at home and started to the office. While driving to the office, he made a quick call to Nick. \'\'Did you find anyone suspicious when Leena was in the amusement park ?\'\' He got a strange feeling that someone was watching over her, but it\'s hard to pinpoint a suspect in the tightly packed crowd.

\'\'Just let it go, Devin. You are overreacting. We are closely monitoring Leena, and nothing is going to happen.\'\' Nick added. He is already frustrated that Leena has come back, and to his further annoyance, Devin talked about her as soon as he called.

\'\'Fine.\'\' Hearing Nick\'s words, even Devin felt he is overreacting a little. But true to Devin\'s intuition, Leena was in someone\'s observation range even with the tight security Devin had placed for her. He was counting the time when that man would appear in front of him. Little did Devin know, he is soon going to appear back into his life to create havoc.

....

In the dappled light, an enormous space arrayed with equipment where group of people carrying the experiments diligently.

Outside the glass doors, a group of men stood in fear, wiping the dripping sweat from their foreheads as they waited for their boss.

\'\'It\'s been a month sir is not responding to our calls.\'\' One of the men said. \'\'Do you think he will meet us this time?"

\'\'Jonathon got a hand of our secrets, and he is currently hiding away from us.\'\' Another man replied. \'\'Before he informs the FBI, we must let sir know_.\'\'

Just then, they heard a man\'s loud scream to the point where the voice even penetrated through the glass doors. Swallowing hard, they gazed at the glass door to catch a glimpse of the sinister act happening inside the closed doors, for they knew it would be another head falling tonight.

Shrouded by mist, the silhouette of a man\'s back twirling dagger with his right hand effortlessly sliced it into a skinny man\'s abdomen. Blood splattered across the floor.

A gasp escaped from outside as they watched the lanky man lay on the floor, dead through the haze. \'\'J_onathon!" The men screamed in horror.

As the mist wholly disappeared, the man turned around, his lips curved into a devilish smile as he gazed at the floor.. Handsome from the depth of the soul, Eyes as black as inky pools, face soaked with fresh blood, he was the epitome of a monster lurking in the shadows.
