Chapter 160 Pay Day (2)
When Zhang Huaxiu returned home that day, she saw her entire family waiting for her in the living room.
“What’s the matter?” asked Zhang Huaxiu, startled.
“Come. Sit down,” said Mother Zhang to Zhang Huaxiu very solemnly. Then, with all seriousness, she said to her, “I’ve asked around for you. He was a decent young man. He doesn’t smoke, doesn’t drink, and doesn’t flirt around. He’s a good person.”
“Mom, how could you go investigate him like that?” said Xiuxiu, somewhat displeased.
“He’s my daughter’s boyfriend. So what if I’ve asked around about him?” Mother Zhang casted her glance. “Have you decided on him? If you have, bring him over for dinner.”
“You agreed, Mom?” Zhang Huaxiu was happy to hear that. She noticed that her father had neither nodded nor shook his head. Biting her lower lip, she said, “How about this weekend?”
Zhang Huaxiu and Chen Fei moved in a very fast pace. After the meeting that weekend and obtaining the approval of his future in-laws, they immediately bought the house at Nanfu Mansion.
Chen Fei took out a small loan from his uncle and bought a 90 square feet unit. He even put it under Zhang Huaxiu’s name before his in-laws brought it up. Mother and Father Zhang liked him even more. They retrieved the dowry that they had prepared for their daughter for them to remodel the place.
“Wow, Xiuxiu-jie,
that’s some pace!” Yingying was very envious. Not because Zhang Huaxiu had found herself a nice man, but that she parents that truly cared for her.“You will find your happiness one day too.” Zhang Huaxiu’s eyes were curled. “Um, Boss Lady, my engagement will be end of this year. Will you come for the banquet?”
“Well, of course. I am half a matchmaker in this relationship. Have the chicken leg ready for me,” said Shu Yan with a smile. “Other than this, I have another happy announcement to make.”
Both of them looked at Shu Yan dubiously.
“Today is pay day!” Shu Yan paid her employees every 15th of the month. Salaries were paid out with a 2 weeks delay to prevent employees from leaving suddenly. That way when an employee wanted to quit, they would give advance notice. Otherwise, employees might stop coming the day after pay day and put Shu Yan in a bind.
“Is it already the 15th? I totally forgot.” The two of them had worked so much that they have forgotten the date.
Of course they didn’t really forget, they just didn’t bring it up. Xiuxiu had a fixed income prior. Shu Yan paid her out though the 19th and the calculation restarted from the 20th on.
Shu Yan had already finished calculating the salary the night before but she pulled out a notebook and showed them the calculations. “Last month you two worked 11 days. As the business had just opened up plus the promotional events, I counted that as full attendance. That and meal subsidy came out to be $104. Xiuxiu’s total sales was $23,565, commission was $235.65. That comes out to be $339.65, so $340. Yingying’s total sales was $17,435. Commission came out to be $174.35, total was $278.35, so $279. Here’s your salaries, you two can verify the amounts.”
“No, no need. We trust you, Boss Lady,” said Zhang Huaxiu and Yingying as they shook their heads.
Truth was, they both knew how much sales they have made and how much their pay was. The only thing that was unexpected was that Shu Yan gave them the award for full attendance for the 11 days the month before.
