Chapter 33
′′ Oh my god, I won’t drink like this again. . . oh, of course, it wasn’t the alcohol but a damn explosion that left me like this. ”
Waking up while my body felt a bit heavy, for a second I thought it was a hangover; unfortunately, I remembered that the whole Skyr Ventis thing left it in its current state. Thinking how injured I was and seeing my body that was now in perfect condition, Desmond recalled that before I passed out I saw Kyuru use some kind of healing spell on me.
Adjusting my posture a bit, I saw the small but very sensual Kyuru asleep on her white pillow with blue gems; The little fairy seemed to have a nice dream, thinking about what she was doing for me, decided to let her sleep as long as possible.
Three hours later my back hurt even more than when I was injured by the damn explosion, so I was left with no choice but to move the lazy fairy before the damage to my spine was permanent; I could only blame myself for forgetting that the fairy was capable of sleeping for hours and that even the sounds of my battle with the Skyr Ventis weren’t enough to wake her up.
After placing the pillow where the fairy resides back on the floor, I observed her once more, realizing that unlike other occasions where the fairy seemed to sleep out of pleasure rather than exhaustion; this time the fairy seemed truly exhausted from the spell she used to heal my wounds.
Seeing the fairy in that state made me feel guilty about the fairy’s condition, remembering all the times that I had been hurt since I came to this forest; I noted to my regret that almost all of my injuries could be attributed to my reckless way of doing things and the carefree way in which I treat the danger around me.
.....
When the events took place I had not noticed anything wrong with it, I simply attributed all this to bad luck or justified it in other ways at the time; but now that my actions had repercussions on Kyuru I realized that there was something more to the way I did things.
Making a decision on my mind, I let the fairy rest while I took some suitable branches for my use and began carving wooden arrows for hours until my quiver was filled with them.
′′ Oh good morning Desmond, what are you doing? ′′ Say the cutest and laziest fairy in the world.
′′ Just preparing some things, I feel much better after the healing spell you used on me so thank you; did you sleep well?′′ I ask with a fair amount of concern.
′′ It was nothing, you have done a great job as my guardian so far so it was the least I could do and I slept quite well; I love that bed that you gave me Desmond. ′′ A beautiful lovely smile makes its way through Kyuru′s cute face.
′′ Glad to hear that Kyuru. . . You will see the truth is that I have already fulfilled all my established objectives in this world so I was thinking of taking things slowly until it is time to go. ”
′′Mmmm if that’s what you want, that’s fine for me so I can sleep more; But I would still like to eat delicious things while we wait. ′′ The fairy exclaimed a little excited at first before putting on a reluctant expression when talking about food.
′′ Ha ha ha, don’t worry Kyuru; I certainly plan to take it easy and not take any more unnecessary risks. But I still plan to explore the forest a bit to see if I can find magical fruits or other resources; of course, I can look for delicious things to eat in the meantime.
′′ Yaaay Desmond you are amazing, we can have a lot of fun in the forest if we avoid dangerous places′′
′′ Ok ok, let’s eat something first and we’ll talk about having fun. ”
(Desmond’s seventh day in the Serefia forest)
′′ Is the healing spell going to take a long time? ′′
′′ It’s almost ready Desmond just don’t move too much′′
′′ Ok ok I will not move′′
“Ed vita lessa retria maná domare ed anima”
′′ In the name of Kyurustrae-exzar-Serefia may the manna obey my will′′
′′ Fiuuu is ready′′ A tired Kyuru exclaimed.
′′ Thank you Kyuru, heck I can’t believe my luck is bad enough to get bitten in the ass by a damn fire lynx on my last day in this world.′′
′′ Oh come on Desmond, not everything is so bad, well that surely an ashy lynx bit your butt; but we found several magical fruits and rare magical beasts that gave us good profits. ”
′′ That may be true, mainly the part of the magical fruits; because of those magical beasts, almost all of them were too strong to fight against. One was even a level stronger than Skyr Ventis, thank god it was a peaceful creature.′′
′′ There you have it, we were lucky we didn’t get eaten by a giant beast and we got some delicious stuff; so not everything is so bad. ′′
Unsure of what to say to my optimistic companion, I could only keep my mouth shut; furthermore the fairy is not entirely wrong taking into account the results shown in Hunter’s book for eating the various magical fruits that we found in the forest.
Although it may seem that not much has changed from the day I arrived in this forest, I still consider it an achievement to have moved up from low to medium level; but to be honest the difference I feel is not as significant as I thought it would be.
My physical qualities seem to have increased, I am faster, stronger, more resistant and even my senses seem to have improved; but the increase was only about 20% or so. Without the right tools, it’s hard to determine but I don’t feel like I’ve been greatly empowered.
The biggest difference from the past is a little more difficult to describe, a little more esoteric for lack of better words to describe it; It kind of feels like that time Kyuru used our connection to heighten my mana sensitivity while I fought that stupid ice owl.
I asked Kyuru about it and the lazy fairy said that she could feel the mana flowing in my body; not temporarily like when she connected with mana but in a more permanent way. In her own words, she said that by the standards of this world; I was someone with enough magical potential to begin training in the ways of mana.
It’s a shame that Kyuru didn’t know the way humans train mana in this world; as a matter of fact, the vast majority of knowledge of her is limited to fairies and this forest. But I guess it’s better to have magical potential or whatever than not to have it.
′′ Kyuru is time to collect our things, according to my calculations there is only an hour or so before we leave′′
′′ Don’t worry Desmond I have everything ready′′
As I waited impatiently for the moment to return home, an irresistible urge to say something that could potentially cause a series of unstoppable events related to the immense power of cliches crossed my mind. . . But after days of being good; I wanted to do one last stupid thing before I left this forest so to hell.
′′ Well I guess it’s time to go, now let’s just relax Kyuru; say . . . What could go wrong now? ′′
Kyuru seemed confused by my sudden comment, but I was more focused on the surroundings to check if the legends concerning this phrase are as true as they are said.
′′ Well that was disappointing, I thought something would happen; On second thought it is better than nothing will happen. ”
Just as I finished that sentence a Roar of tremendous power shook the heavens, while the sound reverberated thunder filled the sky with its light and the wind began to twist the clouds into a vortex that covered the entire horizon.
′′ HOW DARE YOU? LOW CREATURES TO INVADE MY DOMAIN′′
As I felt the ground shake from the force of that roar filled with anger, I could only think of one thing:
′′ Holy Mother of God the clichés are even more powerful than I thought. . . Oh and I think it could potentially have caused my death. . . Shit′′
