Chapter 609
“On the other hand, the high-ranked slave curse takes a little bit more material to create from the medium rank. Not to mention healers who have any kind of High ranked spells are less than a hundred... or possibly less than ten at the minimum.”
“Umm. Why do you look conflicted?” Asked Vincent after watching Russo rub his chin as if he was contemplating.
“Nobles do not normally free their slaves. Additionally, almost everyone will have the high-ranked slave curse, making the High Cleanse spell useless to free slaves from their fate.”
Russo looked at Vincent as if he was about to mention a secret before saying, “I heard the other captains mention how the Royal Doctor Hibiscus can only save a few slaves from their fate.”
[Now, this is why Kevin was discovered. Losing slaves was one thing, but removing the high-ranked slave curse was another. It became apparent Kevin was a person from another world after he announced it with his actions.]
[The book of heroes mentioned multiple times how Kevin turned slaves into his retainers because they wanted to get rid of the curse. If they followed Kevin or returned home as a beastman, the book doesn’t mention.]
[But Kevin was too optimistic and trusting. We can guess how many times Kevin was betrayed without him knowing, or the people he saved and went elsewhere were forced to confess everything they knew.]
-...-
.....
Vincent couldn’t say Kazumi was wrong about Kevin because the truth hurts. The book of heroes only stated what happened as if it were a summary instead of Kevin’s point of view.
Vincent and Kazumi could only make guesses if Kevin changed and adapted or not to the different world like Vincent had to do to survive.
Vincent tried to clear his mind of such thoughts. He acted unhappy and lied, “Thanks, Russo. Also, you were right about Sofy.”
“I acquired a precious High Cleanse scroll and felt bad about Sofy’s past. I chose to cure her first since we are taking good care of Leah, Clara, and Beth. Being a slave or not will not change how they are living right now.”
Vincent frowned and looked in the direction of the entrance door. “They are still too young to go outside alone, and I hope they will grow up to ignore the negative comments of random people .”
“Ninty years is too much. I am glad she can finally feel free. Furthermore, the three little kids are always happy, and my mother loves them very much. When I do not look at their necks, I sometimes forget they are cursed with the slave curse.” Russo said after buying Vincent’s constantly improving acting.
Russo saluted Vincent respectfully like a soldier saluting their higher-ups.
“I will be leaving now. ” Russo said before turning around. He moved his head and glanced at Vincent. “I will try to ask my fellow captains if they have an idea of who the opponents will choose to fight in the judgment by combat are.”
“Thank you, Russo. That would be a great help.”
Russo shook his head. “I am ashamed I can not help more than this. I would participate if I can, but the requirements are too specific to offer my help.”
“It is fine, Russo. I will not force you to lose your job by becoming my slave with a medium-ranked slave curse and later cure you.”
“Thank you. I appreciate your kindness.” Russo thanked Vincent while his respect for Vincent grew.
[Russo left. I hope he can save the poor slaves being mistreated.]
“I agree with you. I hope everything goes well.” Vincent looked around and saw no one. *Sigh* “I am going to the kitchen to make a cup of tea. I want to relax my mind for now.”
[Yeah. After too many things happened, we learned how a curse needs a cleanse spell of a higher rank to work. Fortunately, the slave document does not mention the rank of the slave curse, or we could get in trouble for curing Sofy from her curse.]
Vincent later arrived in the kitchen. He felt bad seeing Yula preparing all the food alone, yet she didn’t look stressed or unhappy. She looked like a seasoned chef preparing the food and was too used to the job to feel pressured or overworked.
Vincent asked if Yula needed help, but she refused. Yula said she wanted to cook a feast to celebrate Shana’s birth and remember the lives of the two who they buried this morning.
Vincent didn’t try to persuade Yula. Instead, he made a cup of tea and left. He entered an empty room and summoned a chair to sit on.
[I will tell Jun Ye Rim to ask Ester and Lilith to help in the kitchen. I will also tell Jun Ye Rim to help if possible.] Kazumi said before leaving Vincent alone in the room.
During the time alone, Vincent could deeply ponder about what happened today and contemplate what he could’ve done better. He looked at the ceiling and murmured, “I hope Russo can save the victims of greedy inhuman filth.”
After drinking the cup of tea and storing it, Vincent closed his eyes. The silent and dim room felt relaxing, allowing Vincent to sleep a few seconds later on the chair.
*Knock, knock* The door opened a few hours later. A pair of the eye looked at Vincent sleeping on the chair. Soon the person sat on Vincent and whispered in his ears seductively, “You are so variable I might eat you, hehe.” *Lick*
Vincent opened his eyes and was a pair of fangs attached to a grin. None other than Mimi woke Vincent up while feeling the urge to take a sip of Vincent’s fresh blood.
[Hehe, Mimi is constantly seeking ways to make you accept letting her drink your blood.]
-...-
“Ahem. Did you spread the rumor?” Vincent asked after clearing his throat.
Mimi nodded and revealed a cheerful smile. “I sneaked into multiple places with my bat form and told many lizardfolk your words. They looked confused, but I left to different rooms and locations without leaving a trace nor getting found.”
“Did... did you come here for a reward, perhaps?” Questioned Vincent with a frown.
“I would like that, but I can be rewarded at night. ” Mimi said before getting up from Vincent’s lap. She pointed with her thumb behind her while continuing, “You have guests waiting in front of the gate. I was approaching the gate when I met two soldiers and three adventurers asking to meet Baron Lionheart.”
[They came this quickly? I thought they would at least take one or two days to visit.]
“The number is less, though. That means two options. They decided to become sponsored by me, or they want to check what kind of deal I am willing to offer.” Vincent said while standing up.
Vincent stored the chair. He closed his eyes and focused on spreading his feeler-like intent. After thirty seconds passed of deep concentration, Vincent felt the chairs and table in the nearby room.
“I felt your energy in the other room. Did you do something?” Asked Mimi.
“Yes. They are guests, yet they are window shoppers looking for a better deal simultaneously. I will welcome them with a place to sit, yet I will not let them meet the mansion’s residents nor the small chance to see Sakura passing by accidentally.”
Mimi understood what Vincent was trying to mean. She smiled and opened the door, “Let’s go. I can feel their blood circulation to determine their emotion. I can help you if you want.”
[Emotion detector Mimi can prove beneficial by determining their intentions.]
[Vincent, how about we do this?]
While Vincent and Mimi walked to the front gate, Kazumi explained a plan to have Mimi move her fingers. Depending on the number of fingers closed, Kazumi would be able to know what kind of emotions the person speaking has by glancing at Mimi’s hands.
Vincent liked the plan, and he explained it to Mimi. It didn’t take a long time for Mimi to understand and like Kazumi’s idea.
Mimi agreed to move her fingers secretly. From their current location to the gate, Mimi learned what each number represented in feelings.
Vincent and Mimi arrived in front of the gate a few minutes later. They saw the five people waiting for him. Two vice capaians were chatting with the twins while the three adventurers waited patently. They were the three male F Ranker who were saved in the morning.
Vincent placed his hands behind his back and said in a frienly yet autiritive tone, “You five may enter. Follow me together.”
Lenn and Renn opened a quarter of the gate and allowed the five men to pass.
The twins looked at Vincent and Mimi walking beside him while leading the five men. Both became inspired by how hardworking Vincent was, and it made them respect him even further.
Vincent and Mimi stopped in the middle of the path to the mansion. Vincent walked to the grass and extended his hand.
The five men became astonished to see a green light appear in front of Vincent and from into a table, chairs, and cups. The light faded and in front of Vincent were a long table, seven wooden cups with water, and seven chairs.
“Take a seat.” Vincent offered casualy after displaying a show no ordinary person could display.
