Chapter 231
Unfortunately, Desmond had not inherited the detective skills of his father, of course, Desmond had a high intellect, sharp senses, and a great capacity for analysis but that was not all that he needed to be a great detective.
In the words of his own father, to be a great detective one had to understand how the people they investigated thought and felt, whether they were the victims or the criminals, understanding their motivations could be the final piece of the puzzle.
And that’s where Desmond failed miserably, he just wasn’t capable of this level of empathy, not that he was a sociopath and you could even say that his emotional quotient was pretty decent but he was still far from as good as his father at it.
Because the information given to him by Elaisa didn’t include much, Desmond now had to become familiar with the surroundings first before he even thought of actually searching for his target.
The reason was simple, unlike the police series where crimes occurred in the city where detectives investigated, Desmond was completely alien to this world, he was unaware of his culture, as well as social and geographical structure.
Normally given the little information that Desmond had on hand, the logical step would be to gather information about the victims, speak with their acquaintances and the people who found the bodies.
With that information, Desmond could generate some kind of basic profile on the victims and use it to narrow down his search parameters, but given the current circumstances, Desmond was not in a position to even begin probing the surroundings or asking questions of anyone.
Therefore, Desmond’s course of action would be to first become familiar with the environment and try to blend in little by little with the people in the place, after all, he had little more than two months to finish this mission.
.....
Due to the difference between the time flows between this dimension and its origin dimension the time ratio was ten to one, in part that was the reason why Desmond dared to take such a mission since his entire squad had got a week off as a bonus for his little security project on the outskirts of town.
Even with that being the case, Desmond couldn’t claim that seventy days would be enough to track down and eliminate his target, but even so, he took the risk, after all, he rarely would have that much free time to try.
In any case, it is not as if Desmond was going to waste time while he adjusted to this place and had a reading of the terrain, in addition to subtly investigating to find his target; Desmond also had planned to make the most of the resources of this world to strengthen himself and perhaps in the process adapt some of the martial skills of this world to his fighting style.
It goes without saying that for a combat maniac like Desmond to be in a world where martial strength reigned supreme was in a way a dream come true and even if the aura wasn’t Desmond’s specialty, he believed he could still learn a lot from the sect he was in.
Of course, his main source of learning would be Mei who was an extremely strong martial artist and whose fighting style would probably best suit Desmond’s tastes.
Despite the general obstacles that Desmond faced in investigating him, it was another problem that bothered him, resources, these were one of the objectives in this world, but certainly not his number one priority; the problem was, Desmond didn’t see a viable way to get resources if he needed to expend most of his energy to catch his prey.
But true to his personality once Desmond didn’t see a viable solution he just put that issue on the back of his head and decided to think about it another day.
Desmond thought that since he would spend little more than two months in this world some opportunity would present itself if the worst happened to the worse, Desmond believed that there would not be much problem if he occasionally deviated from his detective duties to practice an older profession; at least Desmond believed that thieves must be older than detectives.
Feeling that there was no point in dwelling on the matter, Desmond let the night take him in his embrace and went to sleep, one had to envy Desmond’s ability to empty his mind and leave his problems to his future self.
Mei on the other hand was having trouble sleeping, such a thing was not entirely strange for her as she had suffered from nightmares since the day she lost her family, but curiously, her difficulty sleeping was due to another reason this time; that reason was called Desmond.
And it’s not that this was weird, since in the general culture of this world only the person you would eventually marry should see your naked body and although Desmond did not see her completely naked body it was not strange that such a thought crossed Mei′s mind.
That night when Mei finally managed to fall asleep she ended up having a rather peculiar dream, it was a wedding ceremony, there she was in a wedding dress waiting for her future life partner to take an oath, this dream was one that Mei had had at least a couple of times and knew who would show up next.
At least that was what she believed, instead of that familiar silhouette that she admired, with which she had been in love for a long time; The one who appeared was a person who was new to her life and the last thing Mei remembered about her dream were those blue eyes that were looking at her intensely.
“Xiauyue” Such a name was whispered by the lips of Mei who seemed to call longingly for someone in her dreams.
It seemed that despite the good impression that the girl had for Desmond, her heart was far from being fickle because she was still trying to search within her dreams for that special person for her.
