Chapter 232
Or at least that was the thought that crossed his mind at the end of the morning, the reason? Well, Desmond usually has a routine, as a creature of habit that he is, he follows that routine every day from the moment he wakes up.
The first thing Desmond does upon waking up is to put on comfortable clothes and train for at least a couple of hours, from pure physical training to sparring, Desmond always spends his morning keeping fit and alert.
Due to how early he usually wakes up by the time the training ends the sun has already finished coming out of his hiding place and Desmond takes a quick shower to get ready to make breakfast for everyone in the house.
It wasn’t a very complex routine or anything like that, but it was still strange for Desmond to see another pair of blue eyes throughout the entire morning.
It seemed that Desmond was not the only person who was faithful to his habits because as if they had coordinated beforehand, Mei appeared in the small training yard around the same time as him.
Perhaps due to the unfamiliarity between them, Desmond and Mei did not speak much or interact during training and limited themselves to practicing their movements respectively.
Of course, throughout the event, the gaze of both of them wandered to each other on more than one occasion but whether they were analyzing the other’s fighting style or just appreciating the other’s physique was unknown.
A similar incident occurred in the kitchen when both showed up wanting to take charge of breakfast, but in this particular case, both decided that they could well prepare a couple of dishes each and share.
.....
Needless to say, by the time they both left the kitchen they had already filled the dining room table with what looked like a six-person buffet, Desmond and Mei didn’t even bother with their manners when they devoured everything on the table.
As for the taste of the food? They both had to admit that the other person knew what they were doing, but this was not strange at all, given their circumstances, they both had to learn to take care of themselves from a young age and without a mother or father there to cook it was normal for themselves to learn how to cook.
By the end of breakfast a sense of familiarity had already begun to form between Mei and Desmond, which was merely natural, the weird thing would be if two like-minded people couldn’t find a way to get along.
“By the way, I’m not very familiar with the place, but what do you usually do around here?” Desmond asked curiously.
“The vast majority of the time we disciples invest our time in training, we try to feel the Ki around us, absorb it and refine it to improve our bodies.
But the process is slow and cannot be done so simply, it takes strong physical training, resources, and fighting experience to improve.
For physical training, the vast majority use the sect’s facilities, for those who can afford it the sect has some special training grounds.
For resources, can be obtained from the sect by doing quests for it or by exchanging, although most disciples prefer to leave the sect in search of special resources.
As for the fighting experience... well, let’s just say that there is rarely a single day of peace within the sect and although the sect encourages us to go out and gain experience fighting against beasts or bandits; There are also all kinds of events within the sect where you can gain experience “Mei explained in detail knowing that Desmond came from distant lands and might not know a lot about how sects work.
“I see, so where do martial arts fit into this equation?” Desmond replied.
Mei gave Desmond a strange look after asking that question as if he had asked a question either very stupid or very suspicious but she still replied: “Martial arts are practical ways that we use Ki in our bodies, it can be to strike more powerful, move faster or defend ourselves better; the effects vary depending on the level and complexity of the martial art. It is also well known that the continuous use of martial arts helps to accelerate the refinement of Ki within the body so that everything forms a cycle ”
Desmond kept silent and nodded in understanding, he had realized that his question was out of place because it was something that probably even the peasants knew in this world so he decided to stop asking questions.
Mei looked at him in silence for a second with a slightly suspicious expression but soon her expression changed to one of sudden surprise and rush, the girl jumped up and ran out of the dining room while shouting in Desmond’s direction: “I almost forgot, Today is the last day of the month, that means that there is a combat test for all the disciples; quickly get ready you are going to accompany me ”
Unable to say anything about it, Desmond left the kitchen in the same hurry and ran to his room to change into something less casual, but it ended up taking a long time to change his clothes due to not being used to wearing the robes that Mei had borrowed him.
By the time Desmond left the room, an anxious-looking Mei was waiting for him at the door, without even time to apologize, Desmond had to run after Mei who shot out of the house in a certain direction.
Desmond was speechless when he saw Mei make a perfectly straight line towards her target. Why? One has to know that there were buildings, houses, and alleys in her path, but Mei ignored all of them and simply used them as footholds to walk part of her path barely touching the ground.
In fact, Mei did not seem to be the only one with such travel habits, but she certainly was the most extreme, it was then that Desmond wondered if he would be able to adapt to this world, but such hesitation lasted for exactly half a second before Desmond in a display of dexterity, speed and agility followed Mei’s path.
The truth is that Desmond could not be more comfortable in this place, after hearing that the disciples of this place spend their time fighting and looking for treasures Desmond even wondered if Christmas had come before and come to this place was his gift.
